Blog Comment Policy

IAOP actively encourages comments on blog posts. We are dedicated to the IAOP community and endeavor to maintain a respectful, engaging and informative conversation. We have general guidelines for commenting, which are enforced at all times by IAOP staff. If you wish to participate in the community, we ask that you follow these guidelines.

All comments are pre-moderated. To maintain a civil blogosphere, if readers’ comments consistently or intentionally make this community a less than enjoyable place to be, those users and their comments will be excluded from it.

IAOP encourages intelligent, critical discussions and debates in this community. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to voice their opinion regardless of politics, ideology or agreement with other community members, the author of the post or staff members as long as those opinions are respectful and constructively add to the conversation. This community does not tolerate direct or indirect attacks of any nature. These types of comments will not be approved for posting. Individuals who consistently or intentionally post these types of comments will be warned and, if necessary, excluded from the community.

Be yourself.
Every person's opinion is valuable and unique. Pretending to be someone else removes that unique value from you or from others. Don't misrepresent yourself or others. If you do, you will make the community a less enjoyable and valuable place to be and will be removed when we see it.

If anyone has comments, suggestions or complaints, we are here. We will read them and reply: please reach out to us at pulse@iaop.org.

FAQ

Q: I posted a comment. Why can't I see it on the site?
A: It may be pending approval — comments on the blog are moderated before they appear on the site--or your comment violated IAOP’s policy. We pride ourselves in providing an engaging and thought-provoking medium for our users to speak their minds freely, provided comments fall within our policy.

Q: Why am I blocked from commenting?
A: If a comment is abusive, off-topic, uses excessive foul language, or includes a personal attack, and the commenter has previously posted similar comments of this nature, an IAOP moderator may decide to ban the commenter's IP address. This means the abusive commenter is banned from commenting on the site in the future.

Q: Can I include HTML in my comments?
A: We remove all html from comments to preserve formatting consistency.

Q: There is a comment I find insulting and in violation of your policy. What can I do?
A: You can email us at pulse@iaop.org and we will take a look at it.
